Busoga Kingdom is today celebrating the 12th Coronation Anniversary of His Majesty Isebantu Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV at the Mayuge District Headquarters, bringing together cultural leaders, government officials and subjects from across the kingdom.
President Yoweri Museveni has contributed Shs30 million towards the celebrations, with the contribution delivered by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, who is representing the President as Guest of Honour.
Among the government delegation is State Minister for Culture Hon. Mary Kutesa, who congratulated the Kyabazinga and the people of Busoga upon the anniversary.
The celebrations are also being attended by Buganda Kingdom Katikkiro Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga and other cultural and political leaders, underscoring the ties among Uganda’s traditional institutions.
The anniversary was originally scheduled for September 13 but was postponed to September 19 to allow cultural leaders and other Ugandans to attend the burial of the late Tooro King, Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who was laid to rest at the Karambi Royal Tombs in Fort Portal on September 12.
Busoga Kingdom Prime Minister Dr Joseph Muvawala said the postponement was made out of respect for the late Tooro monarch and to give Ugandans an opportunity to participate in his final rites.
The kingdom had also used its Gabula Day commemorations to honour King Oyo, highlighting the longstanding bonds and solidarity between Uganda’s traditional institutions.
Today’s gathering therefore carries both a celebratory and commemorative significance, as Busoga marks 12 years of Kyabazinga Gabula’s reign while continuing to reflect on the recent loss of the Tooro monarch.
In preparation for the celebrations, residents, leaders and students in Mayuge participated in cleaning activities to prepare the district for the event.
The anniversary marks 12 years since William Gabula Nadiope IV ascended the Busoga throne, with the celebrations bringing together Busoga subjects and leaders to mark the milestone in his reign.
