Preparations at FUFA Stadium Kadiba have entered another phase as Uganda continues upgrading training facilities ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) says it is working on storm-water drainage around the facility, which has been earmarked as a training venue for the tournament.
The latest site inspection was conducted alongside officials from the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA) and other stakeholders as construction teams continue work at the stadium.
Kadiba was formally handed over by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) to the National Council of Sports (NCS) on August 18, 2026, for further redevelopment. The works are being undertaken by the UPDF Engineering Brigade.
The upgrade covers several key areas, including the playing surface, drainage, floodlights, electrical works and ICT installations, with the facility expected to meet the standards required for a CAF-certified training ground. The planned works are valued at about Shs5.2 billion.
Kadiba had already been used as a training facility during the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), but further improvements are being made to prepare it for AFCON 2027.
Uganda’s AFCON 2027 Local Organising Committee reported in early September that 10 of the country’s 12 planned training facilities were expected to be ready by December 2026.
Kadiba and the Sir Tito Winyi Senior Secondary School training facility are expected to be completed by January 2027, having been handed over to contractors later than some of the other venues.
The government has allocated Shs135.7 billion for the development of nine additional training facilities across the country, with Shs5.2 billion specifically allocated to Kadiba.
AFCON 2027 will be jointly hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania from June 19 to July 17, 2027. CAF President Patrice Motsepe said recently that the continental football body remains committed to supporting the three host countries as they work to meet the tournament’s infrastructure requirements.
