Traders Have Resumed Their Strike Today.

Traders in Kampala have resumed their strike today in Uganda’s capital city, Kampala, after putting it on halt last week on Tuesday.

The traders complaining against heavy taxes imposed on them and the continuing Chinese involvement in retail trading, have decided to close their shops until they meet president Museveni this Friday and revisit the taxes.

The strike that started in Kampala, has gained support from other cities like Masaka, Mitiyana, Mukono and other cities where fellow traders are also complaining about the same issues.

Security personnel including police and the army are patrolling streets in Kampala to give security to traders who might decide to abandon the strike and reopen their shops.

There however a few traders doted at various places who secretly open up their shops but they are hit by no or few customers visiting them.

The strike is organized by Kampala city traders association KACITA and the Federation of Traders Association both of which represent small groups of traders dealing in various sorts of goods.

Traders have been complaining against the heavy taxes imposed on them for some time now without success.
