Magogo Dropped from Powerful Budget Committee After Five Years

Budiope East MP Moses Magogo is among the notable legislators affected by the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) latest reshuffle of parliamentary committee assignments.

After serving on Parliament’s Budget Committee for the last five years, Magogo has been transferred to the Human Rights Committee, ending his stint on one of the House’s most influential committees responsible for scrutinising government spending.

Kachumbala County MP Patrick Isiagi has also lost his place on the Budget Committee. Isiagi is a relative of former Speaker Anita Among, who has herself been assigned to the Committee on Government Assurance under the new committee lineup.

The opposition has, meanwhile, named Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake to chair the Committee on Government Assurance, with Soroti Woman MP Anna Adeke taking up the position of vice chairperson.

The committee changes are part of Parliament’s routine reconstitution of sectoral committees at the start of a new session. Such reassignments often reshape the oversight responsibilities of legislators and can influence how Parliament handles issues ranging from public expenditure to government accountability.

The latest appointments are expected to define the work of parliamentary committees in the months ahead as MPs begin carrying out their oversight, legislative, and accountability roles under the new arrangement.
