DIGITAL CENSUS: Uganda To Recruit 120,000 Enumerators for Efficient Data Collection.

Uganda is getting ready for its 6th national census, and preparations are almost complete at 90.3 percent. The Uganda National Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) reports that 50 districts already have all the necessary data, with 58 districts and cities at 90 percent readiness. An additional 18 districts have also made good progress above 80 percent, while a few districts are still below 70 percent.

Scheduled to start on 9th –  May, 2024, the census will require over 120,000 enumerators. UBOS Executive Director, Chris Mukiza, has stated that the census will be done digitally, including payments for enumerators to avoid extra costs.

Mukiza has stressed that enumerators need to have mobile money numbers registered in their names to receive their payments, as well as smartphones with enough capacity. Enumerators must also have smartphones that can handle questionnaires and maps. Mukiza also mentioned that telephone numbers must be registered in the enumerators’ own names, as indicated on their national ID cards.
