Uganda is putting the final touches on its preparations to host Group C matches of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to kick off on August 2, 2025. The tournament, originally scheduled for 2024 but rescheduled due to organizational adjustments, will take place at the newly refurbished Mandela National Stadium in Namboole — a landmark moment for Ugandan football.
This edition of CHAN, a prestigious tournament reserved for players active in their domestic leagues, brings continental talent to Ugandan soil for the first time in nearly two decades. Uganda is set to welcome formidable opponents in Group C, including North African giants Algeria, with the Cranes’ opening match against them slated for August 4, 2025
To ensure accessibility for fans from all walks of life, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has set affordable ticket prices:
UGX10,000 for regular entry
UGX30,000 for VIP
UGX50,000 for VVIP
Each ticket grants access to two matches per matchday, giving fans an opportunity to experience double the action. With the Cranes eager to impress on home soil, FUFA and national football authorities are urging Ugandans to turn out in full force and create a charged atmosphere in support of the home team
With Namboole Stadium now meeting CAF’s international standards following extensive renovations, officials see the tournament as a major step forward for Uganda’s football infrastructure. The stadium’s upgrade includes improved seating, lighting, security, and broadcasting facilities—positioning Uganda as a credible host for future regional and continental tournaments.
“This is more than just a football event—it’s a national moment,” said FUFA President Moses Magogo. “We urge all Ugandans to come out and support the Cranes. Let’s fill Namboole and show Africa what we’re capable of both on and off the pitch.”
The CHAN tournament not only showcases football talent but also promises a boost to local businesses, tourism, and national pride. Kampala is expected to see increased activity from regional visitors, media, and fans, with hotels and transport services gearing up for the influx.
Uganda’s participation in CHAN has grown steadily over recent years, but hosting the tournament presents a rare chance to capitalize on home advantage and inspire a new generation of players and fans alike.
