Police in Kampala are searching for a shop owner named Aggrey following a raid that led to the discovery of military and police uniformson the market sale. This operation took place on Monday, May 27, 2024, and involved the confiscation of several items from Aggrey’s shop.
The Deputy spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, Luke Owoyesigyire, stated that the raid was based on intelligence and was conducted by the Territorial Police at the Central Police Station in Kampala.
The seized items are now being held at the Central Police Station. “In an intelligence-led operation, the Territorial Police at Central Police Station Kampala have successfully recovered several items of military and police wear,” Owoyesigyire said.
The raid occurred around 11:00 am at shop number 113B in Angel Plaza on Nabugabo Road. The police confiscated 571 pairs of assorted shoes, one pair of army-like uniforms, one army jacket, and one army mobile mattress from the shop.
Owoyesigyire explained that the shop, owned by Aggrey, was selling these items illegally. “This operation underscores our commitment to ensuring the security and safety of our community by preventing the unauthorized distribution of military and police attire.
We commend the efforts of our officers and the intelligence team for their diligence and swift action,” he added.

This operation is part of a series of similar actions by joint security forces aimed at stopping the illegal use of military and police uniforms
This is illegal and must stop immediately. For Private Security Organizations Regulations 23(3) of Statutory Instrument 2013 NO.11; The Police (Control of PSOs), gives guidance. For other individuals and groups, the unauthorized duplication and manipulation of rank insignia and accoutrements of the police and other Sister Agencies like the UPDF and Prisons Services, is a violation of the laws, under the UPDF Act, Penal Code and other Statutory instruments, that gazette the uniforms.
