Ian Gumisiriza has been appointed as the Special Presidential Assistant on the Informal Sector, a role that will see him work closely with government to address the concerns of millions of Ugandans earning a living in the informal economy.
Reacting to his appointment, Gumisiriza said the position is a sign of the President’s confidence in the work he has been doing over the past 10 years. During that time, he has been developing and presenting ideas aimed at improving the lives of market vendors, street vendors, boda boda riders, and other informal sector workers.
He noted that while he previously shared recommendations directly with the President, many of those proposals were not fully implemented by the responsible ministries, departments, and agencies. With his new appointment, he believes he will be better placed to follow up on these ideas and work with different government institutions to turn them into action.
Gumisiriza pledged to serve with dedication, saying he is determined to live up to the trust placed in him and ensure the voices of informal sector workers are heard and their challenges addressed through effective government action.
