The High Court in Mpigi has dismissed an application by musician-turned-politician Hillary Innocent Kiyaga, popularly known as Dr Hilderman, seeking access to electoral materials in his petition challenging the election of former Trade Minister Amelia Anne Kyambadde as Mawokota North Member of Parliament.
In a ruling delivered on September 16, 2026, Justice Jamson Karemani rejected Hilderman’s request for various electoral documents, including ballot boxes, declaration of results forms and other records from polling stations in Mawokota North.
According to the court record, the application was dismissed because it did not clearly identify the specific polling stations or electoral materials Hilderman wanted the Electoral Commission to produce. The court described the request as lacking sufficient particularity and amounting to a “fishing expedition.”
Hilderman is challenging the January 2026 parliamentary election results in which Kyambadde was declared winner. The Electoral Commission is also a respondent in the petition.
The latest ruling, however, does not by itself determine the main election petition. It concerns the separate application seeking discovery of electoral materials. The substantive challenge to the election remains before the High Court.
The case is among more than 100 election petitions arising from Uganda’s January 2026 elections that the Judiciary began hearing from September 14. The hearings are scheduled to continue through November 13, 2026.
