Government Reopens Namungoona–Bwaise Bypass Following Roadworks

Motorists can once again use the Namungoona–Bwaise section of the Kampala Northern Bypass after the government completed resurfacing works that had disrupted traffic for several weeks.

The Ministry of Works and Transport announced that asphalt laying on the affected section had been fully completed, allowing the road to reopen on Monday morning after construction equipment was cleared from the site.

Works and Transport Minister Fred Byamukama said the contractor had been instructed to finish the repairs by Monday to ease heavy congestion experienced during the maintenance period. He confirmed that the remaining road markings will be completed in the coming days without causing major interruptions to traffic.

The minister thanked motorists for their patience, noting that the maintenance was necessary to improve the condition of one of Kampala’s busiest transport routes.

The Kampala Northern Bypass is a key link connecting major highways around the capital and helps divert through-traffic away from the city centre. The reopening is expected to reduce congestion and improve travel times for commuters and transport operators who had been forced to use alternative routes during the roadworks.
