A Heartfelt Visit To The Legendary Coach Bidandi Ssali

KCCA FC legends, administrators, and media personnel recently paid a heartfelt visit to legendary coach and administrator, Jaberi Bidandi Ssali, at his Kiwatule residence. The visit, which took place on Monday, January 20th, 2025, was a gesture of appreciation and recognition for Mister Ssali’s contributions to the club.

During the visit, a recognition plaque was presented to Mister Ssali, along with this season’s club jersey and a framed, autographed jersey from the club legends and administrators. The event was attended by notable figures, including Godfrey Kisekka, Tom Lwanga, Paul Ssali, and Sam Mugambe, among others.

Mister Ssali’s son, Ibrahim Ssali, expressed gratitude on behalf of his family for the thoughtful gesture, which brought back fond memories and provided timely recognition for his father’s dedication to KCCA FC.

Jaberi Bidandi Ssali, a renowned Ugandan politician, businessman, and former football manager, was born on July 17, 1937, in Butambala District. His multifaceted career spans over five decades, with notable achievements in politics, football, and business.

Early Life and Education

Bidandi Ssali attended local elementary schools before joining Kibuli Junior School. He later transferred to Nyakasura School for his A-Level education. Although he pursued a degree in agriculture at a university in Pakistan, he didn’t graduate. Instead, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Local Governance and Human Rights from Uganda Martyrs University.

Political Career

Bidandi Ssali’s entry into politics began as a mobilizer for the Uganda People’s Congress in 1962. He later served as the Minister for Local Government from 1989 to 2004. In 2004, he founded the People’s Progressive Party and became its president, a position he held until 2015 ¹.

Football Career

Bidandi Ssali’s football career is marked by his success as the head coach of KCCA FC from 1966 to 1979. During his tenure, the club gained promotion from the third division in 1966 and won the prestigious CECAFA Cup. He also coached the Uganda national team in 1982.

Personal Life

Bidandi Ssali is married to Suzaana Kiganda Nampinga. Interestingly, he is the biological father of Ugandan music artist Bebe Cool.
