Letsile Tebogo , born 7 June 2003  is a Botswana sprinter. He became the first African to win the gold medal in the 200-meter race at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Because Africa has been short of medals in men’s sprints. As the first African sprinter to win an Olympic gold medal in the men’s 200-meter , Tebogo also honoured the people of the continent.

Africa is now seen as a sprinting home, which means a lot to the continent, So we just had to make sure that the message is loud and clear.”

The President of Botswana, Mokgweetsi Masisi, has declared today a national holiday to celebrate the gold medal victory.

During a special event held in Gaborone, President Masisi said, “Today, we find ourselves united in jubilation as Tebogo has demonstrated the power of determination and hard work. He has shown our youth that anything is possible, and we must continue to support and uplift our talents,”
