TRIMMING THE FAT: Proposals To Scale Down Government Operations For Better Budgeting.

In a recent statement, Ramathan Ggoobi, the secretary to the Treasury and permanent secretary in the finance ministry, raised concerns about the size of the government and the amount of money being spent on its operations. Ggoobi stated, “The Government has become too big. We are spending a lot of money on running the government.”

In light of this, there have been discussions about potential areas where the government could cut costs by reducing the size of various sectors. Some of the suggestions include reducing the number of Members of Parliament from 500 to 300, trimming down the number of ministers from 80 to 30, and questioning the necessity of presidential advisers. Additionally, there have been talks about reevaluating the number of Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) and local government officials.

These proposed cuts aim to streamline the government’s operations and reduce unnecessary expenses. As the debate continues, it remains to be seen which areas will be targeted for reduction and how these changes will impact the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the government. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
