Tooro Kingdom has appealed for prayers for its monarch, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, amid reports that he is critically ill in the United States.
Unconfirmed reports circulating on Thursday claimed that the 34-year-old king had died while receiving treatment for cancer. However, his reported death had not been independently verified by the time of publication.
Statements attributed to Tooro Kingdom officials and the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that King Oyo was in critical condition and urged the public to remain calm, avoid speculation and rely on official updates.
“We equally appeal to everyone to refrain from speculation, rumours or sharing unverified information regarding His Majesty’s condition,” one statement said.
The development follows earlier reports in August that the monarch was seriously ill. At the time, Tooro Kingdom dismissed the claims as false and said King Oyo was in the United States for official engagements and further studies.
Born on April 16, 1992, King Oyo ascended the Tooro throne in 1995 at the age of three, following the death of his father, Omukama Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III. He has since supported initiatives in education, healthcare, environmental conservation, tourism and youth empowerment.
