The Uganda Police Force has announced a nationwide recruitment exercise to enlist 10,000 probationer constables. This initiative aims to strengthen the police force in preparation for the forthcoming general elections.
According to the recruitment advert, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Applicants must be Ugandan citizens.
A valid National ID or confirmation letter from NIRA is required. Candidates must also have no criminal record.
Applicants must be physically fit and prepared to work long hours, often under challenging conditions, in any part of the country.
Candidates must have:
- A Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent, obtained in a single sitting no earlier than 2020.
- At least four credits, including either English or Mathematics, and a pass in another subject (under the traditional grading system), or at least four “C” grades, including either English or Mathematics, and at least a “D” grade in another subject (under the Competency-Based System)Applicants must not be current or former officers of other security forces.
Applicants must submit handwritten applications addressed to the Inspector General of Police, accompanied by the following documents:
- Photocopies of academic certificates.
- A photocopy of the National ID.
- Three recent passport-sized photographs.
- An identity card or introductory letter from the previous school attended.
- Recommendation letters from Local Council I (LC I), Local Council III (LC III), and the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) from their respective districts.
All documents must be delivered to the Police District or Divisional Headquarters by Friday, March 21, 2

The recruited probationer constables are expected to play a key role in ensuring security during the general elections.
