Court Rejects Lukwago’s Bail Bid Again Over Lack of Medical Evidence

The High Court has once again denied a bail application by Erias Lukwago, ruling that there is no official evidence showing he requires specialized medical treatment outside Luzira Prison.

In the ruling, the judge said the defence had argued that Lukwago’s health required treatment beyond what could be provided in prison. However, the court found that the Uganda Prisons Service had not certified or recommended that he be transferred to an external health facility.

The judge noted that without such a recommendation from prison authorities, the court had no basis to rely on health grounds in granting bail.

The decision marks the second time Lukwago has been denied bail, meaning he will remain on remand as his case continues. His lawyers are expected to consider their next legal options following the latest setback.

The ruling is likely to fuel further public debate, especially among Lukwago’s supporters, who have repeatedly raised concerns about his health while in custody.
