The Ugandan football community is mourning the death of SC Villa captain David Owori, who has succumbed to injuries after being attacked by unknown thugs near his home in Makindye.
Owori was rushed to Case Clinic on Tuesday night in critical condition after the assault. Earlier reports had claimed he was involved in a boda boda accident, but SC Villa spokesperson Asan Kasingye later confirmed that the defender had been attacked by unknown assailants.
The experienced right-back, who was one of SC Villa’s longest-serving players, was admired for his leadership, commitment, and consistency on the pitch. His death is a huge blow to the record league champions and Ugandan football at large.
Police are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack as the football fraternity continues to pay tribute to a player remembered for his passion, humility, and dedication to the game.
May his soul rest in peace.
