Uganda’s national football team, the Uganda Cranes, has received a Shs30 million cash boost from Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba following their 1-0 victory over Libya in the AFCON 2027 qualifiers.
The announcement was made by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), which thanked Gen Muhoozi for the financial gesture after the Cranes secured the crucial win at Hoima City Stadium.
According to FUFA, the money was given through the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) and delivered by the head of the PLU chairman’s office, Daudi Kabanda.
Kabanda subsequently handed the package to Uganda Cranes captain Denis Onyango in a presentation attended by members of the team.
The Shs30 million gesture comes as the Cranes continue their campaign in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Uganda secured the 1-0 victory over Libya in Hoima, a result that provided the team with an important boost in its qualification campaign.
The financial reward also comes amid efforts to motivate the players following their performances on the international stage.
FUFA publicly acknowledged the contribution, describing it as a gesture of appreciation to the players and the national team.
The Cranes will now turn their attention to the remaining matches in the AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign as they seek to secure a place at the continental tournament.
The Shs30 million reward adds another layer of motivation for a Cranes side looking to build momentum after the victory over Libya.
