The Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Judith Nabakooba, has announced a temporary suspension of the issuance of Special Land Certificates until December.
The announcement was made during a briefing at the Uganda Media Centre, where Nabakooba addressed growing public concerns over alleged irregularities in the process.
The decision follows an increasing number of public complaints, including allegations that some Special Land Certificates have been issued contrary to established procedures.
Other concerns raised include cases of double titling, irregular billing and other issues surrounding land administration.
The temporary suspension is expected to give the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development time to review the process and address the concerns raised by the public.
The move is likely to affect individuals and institutions currently seeking Special Land Certificates, as stakeholders await further guidance from the ministry on when the issuance process will resume.
