First Batch of Ugandans Evacuated from South Africa Arrives Today at Entebbe

President Yoweri Museveni has ordered a fully state-funded evacuation of Ugandans from South Africa following escalating anti-migrant violence that has forced hundreds to seek government assistance.

More than 700 Ugandans have registered for voluntary return, with the government covering all evacuation costs through special Uganda Airlines charter flights while issuing emergency travel documents to those in need.

Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo has confirmed that the first batch of evacuated Ugandans will arrive at Entebbe International Airport today at midnight, marking the start of the government’s phased repatriation exercise.

Meanwhile, the Ugandan government has intensified diplomatic engagement with South African authorities, seeking stronger protection for Ugandans who choose to remain. Officials say ongoing discussions are focused on ensuring the safety of Ugandan citizens as well as the security of their businesses and investments amid the unrest. Additional evacuation flights are expected in the coming days to bring home the remaining registered citizens.
