Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put has named a 28-man squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Tunisia and Libya, followed by two international friendly matches against DR Congo.
The squad brings together a mix of experienced players, foreign-based stars and emerging talents as Uganda prepares for a busy international window.
The Cranes will begin their AFCON qualifying campaign against Tunisia on September 24, 2026, before returning home to face Libya on September 29.
Put has retained experienced goalkeeper Denis Onyango, who plays for Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa, alongside David Lukwago of SC Villa and Hannington Ssebwalunyo of NEC FC.
The defensive department includes Toby Sibbick of Burton Albion, Jonathan Odongo of UPPC FC, Algeria-based Rogers Torach, Azizizi Kayondo of FC Slovan Liberec and Germany-based Herbert Bockhorn of FC Magdeburg.
Other defenders selected are Nathan Asiimwe of Salford City, Geoffrey Lunguene Kane of SC Villa, Hillary Mukundane of Vipers SC and Gavin Kizito of Nairobi United.
In midfield, Put has called up Baba Alhassan of Mardin 1996 Spor in Turkey, Noble Okello of Lexington SC in the United States, Kenneth Semakula of Al Ittihad Alexandria Club in Egypt, Allan Oyiwoth of Dunfermline FC in Scotland and Joseph Seremba of Nairobi United.
The attack will be led by a group that includes Allan Okello, who plays for AS FAR in Morocco, James Bogere of AGF in Denmark, Travis Mutyaba of CS Sfaxien in Tunisia and Denis Omedi of Gor Mahia in Kenya.
Rogers Mato of Hearts FC in Scotland, Hassan Mubiru of Azam FC in Tanzania, Sadam Maseraka of Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in the United States, Steven Mukwala of Al Nasr SC in Libya, Richard Basangwa of NEC FC and SC Villa’s Frank Sebufu complete the forward options.
Following the two AFCON qualifiers, Uganda will play DR Congo in back-to-back international friendlies, with the first match scheduled for October 2 and the return fixture on October 5, 2026.
The selection gives Put several options across all areas of the pitch, with the coach expected to rely on the experience of senior players while also giving younger members of the squad an opportunity to establish themselves on the international stage.
Uganda will be hoping for a strong start against Tunisia before using the home fixture against Libya to build momentum in the race for qualification to the 2027 AFCON finals.
