The Electoral Commission (EC) is set to conclude the nationwide display of the National Voters Register on Thursday, May 15, as part of preparations for the 2025–2026 General Elections. The exercise, which commenced on April 25, is being conducted at all polling stations across the country.
Running daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., including weekends, the display period offers voters a critical opportunity to verify the accuracy of their details in the register. Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, Chairperson of the EC, emphasized that this exercise ensures each voter’s information—particularly their photograph—is correctly listed, and provides a platform for raising objections to any errors or irregularities.
Voters are urged to review the register carefully and report any of the following:
- Individuals who are deceased
- Persons under 18 years of age
- Registrants listed in the wrong parish
- Duplicate entries
Eligible voters who previously applied for registration but do not find their names on the register are also encouraged to request inclusion during the display perio
Following the main display, a supplementary list of individuals recommended for deletion from the register will be published at Parish or Ward Headquarters from May 16 to May 26, 2025. This allows affected persons to appeal the decision through the respective Parish or Ward Tribunal.
Each tribunal, appointed by the local magistrate, comprises five members:
- Two elders (one male and one female, each aged 60 or older)
- Three members nominated in consultation with political parties and organizations participating in the elections
Justice Byabakama stressed that safeguarding the integrity of elections is a collective responsibility. He called on all stakeholders, including voters, political party agents, and civil society, to actively participate in the process.
He also reminded the public that no new applications for registration or transfer of voting location will be accepted during this period. Display officers remain stationed at every polling station throughout the exercise to assist voters, particularly those affected by recent polling station reorganizations.
The process is being conducted with full transparency, allowing observation by political party agents and any interested members of the public. Complaints or concerns should be directed to the respective District Returning Officers.
