Knowles admitted she was “very, very shocked” and didn’t expect Beyoncé to take home the top prize. In fact, she was so stunned that it took her a minute to process what had happened.
Knowles shared that she was sitting with her grandchildren Rumi and Sir, and they were all just sitting there in shock. She couldn’t believe it, especially since Beyoncé had been nominated for Album of the Year four times before but never won. Beyoncé’s win was historic, making her the first Black woman to win Album of the Year in the 21st century.
