Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has said opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye, whom he referred to using the initials “Dr KB,” will be “handled” by Gen Salim Saleh if he wants forgiveness.
In a post on his official X page made on August 25, 2026, Muhoozi wrote: “Dr.KB will be handled by Afande Saleh. If he wants forgiveness he should talk to Afande Saleh. Mzee, has given Afande SS those powers.”
By using the initials “Dr KB,” Muhoozi appeared to be referring to Dr Kizza Besigye, whose treason trial has continued to attract national attention amid the evidence recently presented before court.
The post comes as the High Court in Kampala continues to hear evidence in the treason case involving Besigye, his aide Hajji Obeid Lutale and UPDF Captain Denis Oola.
The prosecution has presented video and audio recordings that it says are linked to meetings allegedly connected to a plot to overthrow the government. Some of the evidence has been subjected to scrutiny over its quality and the clarity of the recordings, with questions raised about whether the people captured in the footage and audio can be clearly identified.
Muhoozi’s latest remarks are likely to generate further debate, particularly because they touch on the possibility of Besigye seeking “forgiveness” at a time when the opposition leader is facing an ongoing criminal trial.
However, the CDF did not provide further details about what role Gen Salim Saleh would play or how the process of seeking forgiveness would relate to the proceedings currently before court.
The statement has added a fresh political dimension to the already closely watched treason case, with Besigye’s detention, health and the evidence presented by the prosecution remaining subjects of intense public discussion.
As the court battle continues, attention is now likely to turn to Muhoozi’s remarks and what exactly he meant when he said “Dr KB” should speak to Gen Salim Saleh if he wants forgiveness.
