Ugandan Politics: Ssebamala Refuses to Back Down Amid Allegations of Disqualification

By Dean Lubowa Saava.

Kampala, Uganda – In a bold response, Ssebamala Richard yesterday, the Democratic Party (DP) presidential candidate, has vehemently denied allegations of his removal from the party’s presidential race.

Ssebamala attributed the alleged disqualification to “agents of our enemies who were intimidated by our candidature and thought the only way to stop me was to disqualify me.” He vowed to continue his campaign, asserting, “I want to assure them that it won’t be that easy to get rid of me.”

The DP presidential candidate highlighted his extensive campaign efforts, stating that he has “traversed the entire country more than any candidate and reached all delegates,” who are now eagerly awaiting the opportunity to vote on Friday, May 30, 2025.

Ssebamala emphasized the party’s principles, noting that it is “a people-based party that doesn’t belong to any individual.” He added that no single individual should have special rights over others, including the Electoral Commission.

Ssebamala concluded by asserting his determination to proceed with his candidacy, declaring, “I won’t let them down.” The incident has sparked a heated debate among political observers, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the matter.

As the country prepares for the upcoming elections, the DP and the Electoral Commission are under pressure to clarify the situation and ensure a free and fair electoral process.

In a show of solidarity, Ssebamala’s supporters have taken to social media, using the hashtag #JusticeForSsebamala. The campaign is expected to gain momentum in the coming days as the country heads towards the elections.

The Democratic Party and the Electoral Commission have been urged to investigate these allegations and ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.
