DCIC Nets 177 Illegal Immigrants in Kampala Crackdown

Kampala, Uganda – DCIC Nets 177 Illegal Immigrants in Kampala Crackdownation across the Kampala suburbs of Kabalagala, Kansanga, and Muyenga.

The detainees are from a variety of countries, including Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Sweden. They are currently undergoing processing and may face prosecution.

This operation is part of the DCIC’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal immigration in Uganda.

Similar operations have been conducted in the past. For instance, in July 2024, authorities arrested 135 illegal immigrants in areas such as Kabalagala, Kansanga, Muyenga, Ggaba Road, and central Kampala.

Recent data underscores the substantial presence of irregular migrants in the country. A 2013 report indicated that around 69 percent of discovered irregular migrants were deported. Additionally, Uganda’s porous borders, particularly along the Uganda-Kenya border, have been identified as significant entry points for illegal immigration and informal trade.

The DCIC continues to stress the importance of legal compliance for foreign nationals residing in Uganda. In October 2022, the directorate urged foreign students to secure the necessary student passes to avoid deportation, following the arrest of 182 illegal immigrants in Kampala.
