Lukwago Buries Hatchet: Agrees to Meet Museveni Over Kiteezi Tragedy

In a surprising turn of events, Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has expressed willingness to meet President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the first time, but only to discuss a plan to support the victims of the devastating Kiteezi tragedy.

This sudden change of heart comes after Lukwago’s long-standing refusal to meet Museveni, fueled by his pride and commitment to his political principles.

Lukwago’s past animosity towards Museveni was evident when he threatened to sue State Minister for Kampala Affairs Christopher Kyofatogabye Kabuye for defamation, after Kabuye claimed that Lukwago received political backing from Museveni and his brother Gen Salim Saleh. Lukwago vehemently denied this, challenging Kabuye to produce evidence of any meeting between them.

However, in the wake of the Kiteezi tragedy, Lukwago has softened his stance, acknowledging that a meeting with Museveni may be necessary to secure aid for the affected communities.

He has set one condition for the meeting: it must take place in a tent among the victims in Kiteezi, symbolizing his commitment to the people.

Lukwago’s criticism of KCCA officials, particularly Director for Public Health and Environment Daniel Okello, has been scathing.

He accuses them of mismanaging funds meant for the Kiteezi dumping site, leading to the tragic loss of life. His outrage is palpable, and he vows to hold Okello accountable for his actions.

As the situation unfolds, highly placed sources within KCCA reveal that Brig. Gen Henry Isoke has taken a keen interest in the allegations of negligence and mismanagement that contributed to the Kiteezi tragedy. The investigation is ongoing, and the public eagerly awaits justice for the victims and their families.
