Uganda MPs Advocate for Improved Nutrition for HIV Patients to Combat Epidemic.

During a meeting with officials from the Uganda Aids Commission, MPs expressed their concerns about the challenges faced by people living with HIV, especially in rural areas where access to nutritious food is limited. They emphasised the importance of nutrition in not only improving the health of HIV patients but also preventing the transmission of the virus, particularly among young women.

Dr. Vincent Bagambe, the Director of Planning and Strategic Information at UAC, shared that Uganda has over 1.4 million people living with HIV, with new infections still occurring at a high rate. He highlighted the need for increased awareness and access to services, especially among vulnerable populations like female sex workers.

Despite efforts to combat HIV globally, the disease remains a significant concern, with millions of people affected and millions more losing their lives to AIDS-related illnesses. The situation is particularly dire in Eastern Sub-Saharan countries, including Uganda, which bears a large portion of the global HIV burden.

The MPs are calling for urgent action to address the nutritional needs of HIV patients in Uganda and to improve overall efforts to combat the epidemic in the country. They believe that by prioritising nutrition and providing support to those living with HIV, Uganda can make significant progress towards eliminating the disease.
