Artists Are Not Beggars, Hon. Phiona Nyamutoro Lashes Out The Leader Of Opposition.

Honourable Phiona Nyamutoro replied Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi after her inquiring from the attorney general on the copyright bill and its amendment in the house during yesterdays session.

After the attorney general updating the house about the bill, Joel Ssenyonyi informed the house that a certain group of artists in a certain hotel asked money from the government of Uganda to aid their well being instead of getting it from their artistic works which makes them to be beggars.

Hon. Phiona in a rush responded to Ssenyonyi in the context of defending them (Artists) that they are also Ugandans who have a right to get any finical support from government.

Over the years, the creatives industry has been pursing the government to amend the copyright law in order for the creatives to benefit from their works but parliament hasn’t given its final feedback concerning the bill.
