President Yoweri Museveni has called on developed nations to cease their pollution of the environment and shift toward clean energy solutions to tackle the escalating climate crisis. The president’s statement was delivered on his behalf by Uganda’s Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja, during the ongoing World Government Summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Nabbanja was addressing inquiries raised at the summit regarding Uganda’s efforts to foster sustainability and promote a green economy amidst global environmental challenges. The president’s message underscored the responsibility of major greenhouse gas emitters to embrace clean energy alternatives.
In her address, Nabbanja shared that Uganda has implemented various policies aimed at driving the socio-economic transformation of the nation, with a focus on sustainability as a key pillar.
In addition, the Prime Minister attended the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of Uganda and a digital learning institution. This partnership aims to enhance digital education within Ugandan schools. Henry Okello Oryem, Uganda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, signed the agreement on behalf of the government.
Later, Nabbanja visited the Coffee Exhibition at the World Trade Center in Dubai, where Ugandan coffee was showcased. She highlighted the exceptional quality of Uganda’s coffee, emphasizing that with the right promotion and marketing efforts, the country’s coffee could dominate the global market.
Accompanying the Prime Minister were several key officials, including the Minister for Public Service, Muruli Mukasa; Minister of General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister, Kasule Lumumba; State Minister for Environment, Beatrice Anywar; State Minister for Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Aber Lillian; and Uganda’s Ambassador to the UAE, Zaake Kibedi.
The summit, under the theme “Shaping Future Governments,” is set to continue tomorrow, with further discussions anticipated on global governance and sustainability.
