Drones Disrupt Danish Airports as Authorities Probe ‘Hybrid Attack

Danish authorities are investigating a wave of drone sightings that have caused serious disruptions across the country’s airspace.

At a press conference today, Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen described the situation as a “hybrid attack”, suggesting that a professional and coordinated actor may be behind the incidents. While the nature of the threat appears serious, he was quick to add that there’s no evidence yet linking the activity to Russia.

The most recent incident happened in the north of the country, where Aalborg Airport had to be temporarily closed after drones were spotted nearby. Meanwhile, three smaller airports in southern Denmark — Esbjerg, Sønderborg, and Skrydstrup — also reported drone activity, though they didn’t shut down.

These events come just days after Copenhagen Airport, the country’s largest, was also forced to close due to a similar drone incursion.

In the wake of that incident, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said that while nothing had been confirmed, Russian involvement couldn’t be ruled out. Shortly after, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed Russia was responsible, though he didn’t provide any specific evidence.

For now, Danish officials are urging calm while they continue their investigation. The exact source and intent behind the drone activity remain unclear — but the government is treating it as a serious national security concern.
