VALUABLE EXPERIENCE: Law Students To Benefit From Judicial Practice At East African Law Moot Competition.

Law students from various universities in Uganda gathered at Nkumba University in Entebbe yesterday to prepare for the upcoming All East African Law Moot competition set to take place in May 2024 in Arusha, Tanzan

In a statement by the President of the Uganda Law Students Association, Mwanje Gideon, it was announced that winners selected from Uganda will now begin their preparations to compete at the regional level.

“It is a great honor for us as aspiring lawyers to play a role in the integration of East Africa. We are excited for this year’s competition and look forward to an even better event next year,” Mwanje expressed.

He also urged the Uganda National Council for Higher Education to consider incorporating East African law as a course unit in recognized law schools across the country to further promote East African Integration.

Many participating law students have raised concerns about the fairness of the judging process, with allegations of bias and imbalance in scoring coming from some of the judges.

Tumwesigye Jimmy, a law student from Uganda Pentecostal University participating in the competition, emphasized the importance of transparency and independence of the judges overseeing the moot competitions to ensure fair judgments.

Baku Rapheal, an advocate of the courts of judicature and lecturer at Nkumba University Law School, highlighted the valuable experience that such competitions provide to students, offering them the opportunity to engage in judicial practice under the jurisdiction of the East African Court of Justice.
