The son of former Principal of Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Professor Wasswa Balunywa, has been left out of the 2024 MUBS Guild Elections due to retakes, by his son, Juma Wasswa Balunywa.
Professor Balunywa has accused the current principal of MUBS, Prof. Moses Muhwezi, of being behind the violence and subsequent arrests of his son Juma Wasswa Balunywa.Juma. This resulted in Juma’s disqualification from the guild elections on grounds of alleged academic ineligibility.
In a statement, Balunywa claimed that he has been targeted with a hate campaign by Prof. Muhwezi, leading to the assault on his son. Despite not providing specific details, he firmly believes that his son’s disqualification is a result of these actions.
Juma, who was running for the position of Guild President, has questioned the eligibility criteria set by the Electoral Commission of MUBS. Balunywa raised concerns about the inconsistency within the guild constitution, specifically regarding the requirements of being on normal progress and having no retakes.
Despite citing previous cases where candidates with similar circumstances were allowed to run for the guild presidency, Juma was not given the same opportunity. Balunywa emphasized that his son had met the necessary criteria by addressing a retake and maintaining normal progress in his studies.
Expressing disappointment with the lack of response from the Electoral Commission, Balunywa stressed the importance of transparency and fairness in the electoral process at MUBS. He also forwarded his concerns to key stakeholders, including the Acting Principal, Dean of Students, and Guild President.
While Balunywa awaits clarification from the EC on the reasons for his son’s non-nomination, rumors have circulated about Juma’s academic ineligibility due to retakes. Balunywa has denied these allegations and continues to advocate for clarity and integrity in student elections at MUBS.

Well thing is Balunywa was a threat to AlI other candidates plus this thing has to do with past grudges between the two MUBs principals ..
But according to MUBS laws governing election process once a student pertains a retake they are definately disqualified
