The Buganda Kingdom has reiterated its commitment to working closely with the Central Government to improve the welfare of Ugandans, following a visit by a delegation sent by President Yoweri Museveni to Bulange on Tuesday.

The delegation, led by Vice President H.E. Jessica Alupo and comprising several Cabinet ministers, held discussions with the Kingdom’s leadership on how the two institutions can strengthen cooperation in advancing Uganda’s development agenda.
During the meeting, the Kingdom said it remains ready to partner with the Government in sectors that have a direct impact on people’s lives, including health, education, agriculture, financial literacy and environmental protection. It noted that by combining efforts in these areas, both institutions can contribute more effectively to the country’s social and economic progress.
The discussions also turned to one of Uganda’s biggest development challenges—corruption. Buganda observed that corruption continues to frustrate national transformation by weakening public institutions and affecting the quality of services delivered to citizens. The Kingdom argued that when public offices are filled through influence and corruption instead of competence, ordinary Ugandans bear the cost through poor service delivery.

To address the problem, Buganda called for a stronger fight against corruption, beginning with those entrusted with the country’s highest offices. It maintained that accountability at the top would help restore public confidence and improve efficiency across government institutions.
The Kingdom also challenged the Government to make modern public transport a national priority. It said an efficient transport system would reduce travel time, lower the cost of doing business and increase productivity. As an example of the kind of progress Uganda should strive for, the Kingdom envisioned a future where commuters can travel between Mityana and Kampala by train in just 20 minutes.
As the meeting drew to a close, both sides expressed optimism about expanding cooperation in pursuit of shared development goals. The Kingdom said a stronger working relationship with the Central Government would not only improve service delivery but also accelerate sustainable development and create greater opportunities for communities across the country.
