BREAKING NEWS: 2023 UCE Results Released.

According to the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), the UCE
results for 2023 showed some interesting trends and changes compared
to the previous year. Here is a breakdown of the key statistics and
comparisons;

Candidature: The number of candidates who sat for the UCE exams in
2023 increased by 15008 (4.3%) from 349459 in 2022 to 364465 in 2023.
These candidates sat for their exams in 3808 examination centres. Out
of the total candidates, 118633 (32.5%) were beneficiaries of the
Universal Secondary Education (USE) program.

Gender Distribution: The number of male candidates registered was
180471 (49.5%), while the number of female candidates was 184994
(50.5%).
Examination Malpractice: UNEB reported a continued reduction in cases
of examination malpractice.The most common cases reported were
related to external assistance given during practical exams in Chemistry
and Physics.

Results: A total of 64,782 candidates passed in Division one, 85566 in
Division two, 83,545 in Division three and 112,923 in Division four.
However, 14,879 candidates failed the examinations.
UNEB also noted that 2,774 out of 364,469 candidates did not turn up
for the examination in 2023, showing a decrease from the 3,764 who
were absent the year before.

UNEB observed improvements in English language, Religious Education,
Mathematics and Biology. On the other hand, there were noticeable
drops in performance in History, Agriculture, and Physics. Schools whose
results were withheld due to examination malpractice will be notified
through their portals.
In conclusion, the UCE results for 2023 showed an increase in
candidature and performance improvements in some subjects, but also
highlighted areas for improvement. Parents are encouraged not to discourage their children if their results were not as expected and to continue supporting them in their education journey.
