The Rift In FDC Leads To The Formation Of A New Political Party By The Katonga Faction.

In a groundbreaking decision, leaders of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Katonga faction in Kampala metropolitan have unanimously agreed to establish a new political party. This move comes after a significant number of party members left Najjanankumbi due to disagreements with party president Patrick Amuriat and secretary general Nandala Mafabi.

The decision was made during a consultative meeting held in Kireka, Kira Municipality, organised by Kira Municipality MP Ssemujju Nganda. Prominent figures in attendance included acting party president Elias Lukwago, party national chairperson ambassador Wasswa Biriggwa, and secretary general Harold Kaijja.

During the meeting, members discussed various options, including returning to Najjanankumbi, waiting for court decisions, joining another political party, forming a pressure group, or establishing a new political party. Ultimately, the leaders agreed that creating a new political party would best serve their collective interests.

Following the meeting, Ssemujju confirmed to journalists that the decision to form a new party had been reached. He emphasised that the primary goal of the group remains the removal of President Museveni from power, with or without a political party.

Many members expressed their frustration with the current political landscape, particularly following the FDC’s agreement with Museveni. Frank Mukuye, speaker of Kira Municipal Council, highlighted the need for a party that could bring disillusioned members together after feeling betrayed by their previous affiliations.

This meeting marks the beginning of a series of consultations to be held nationwide, gathering ideas on the way forward after the split from Najjanankumbi leadership. The consultations will continue for two months, culminating in a national executive committee meeting to finalise plans for the future.

A new party, without managing the former failures in the old one means total confusion… It’s like putting new wine in old bottles …

Sure making anew party won’t change anything. The best thing to do is to refocuse and form strategies on how to achieve their aim
