Kabaka Orders Katikkiro and Deputies to Organize Final Coronation Anniversary Ceremony
The Kabaka of Buganda has reportedly directed the Katikkiro, Owek. Peter Mayiga, together with his First Deputy, Prof. Twaha Kigongo, and Second Deputy, Owek. Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, to organize what is expected to be their final coronation anniversary ceremony before leaving office.
The directive follows a meeting held last week between the Kabaka and the Abataka (clan heads), where matters concerning the leadership and administration of the Buganda Kingdom were reportedly discussed.
According to information from sources familiar with the meeting, the Kabaka later issued a letter instructing the Katikkiro and his two deputies to take charge of preparations for the 32nd Coronation Anniversary celebrations scheduled for 31 July. The ceremony is expected to be their final official assignment in their current roles.
Although no resignations have been announced, the directive has fueled widespread speculation that a leadership transition within the Buganda Kingdom could follow the coronation anniversary celebrations. Neither the Katikkiro nor his deputies have publicly commented on the reported directive.
The Buganda Kingdom has not yet issued an official public statement explaining the reported instructions or outlining any plans for changes in its leadership. Many of the Kingdom’s subjects are now closely watching for further communication following the coronation anniversary celebrations on 31 July.
