Fatal Accident Involving Uganda Cranes Bus Claims One Life

A tragic road accident on Kampala’s Northern Bypass claimed the life of a boda boda rider on Tuesday afternoon, July 29, 2025. The crash involved a Uganda Cranes team bus, which was reportedly trying to avoid an oncoming trailer when it struck the motorcyclist near the Kisasi Flyover.

The rider, whose identity was not immediately confirmed, died instantly. His body was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem. The bus driver, Khalid Ahmed, and the vehicle were taken into police custody for further inspection.

The incident has cast a somber mood over Uganda’s preparations for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to begin on August 2. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the crash.

Police expressed condolences to the victim’s family and urged drivers to be more cautious—especially on busy, high-speed roads like the Northern Bypass, which has seen a sharp rise in fatal accidents.

This heartbreaking loss is part of a broader crisis: Uganda recorded over 4,800 road deaths in 2024 alone, with motorcyclists among the most vulnerable. For many, Tuesday’s tragedy is a painful reminder of how quickly lives can be lost on the road
