The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) National Vice President in charge of Buganda and Buikwe South legislator, Michael Lulume Bayiga, has confirmed that he is leading negotiations to convince two Democratic Party (DP) legislators to join his party before the 2026 general elections.

Bayiga stated that the negotiations are progressing well and he is confident that Mukono South’s Fred Kayondo and Mityana South’s Richard Kizito Lumu will join PFF before the nomination of parliamentary candidates.

“I’m working to convince them, although I still have a lot of love for DP. However, they should accept that our party was sold out to Museveni by Norbert Mao and Gerald Siranda in exchange for money and political offices. They should join the new force to fight and liberate our country,” Lulume said.

He added that the legislators are still consulting with their constituents before making a final decision, noting that it takes courage to abandon DP. Bayiga revealed that he also took time to decide whether to join PFF, even attending the DP Delegates Conference in Mbarara in June, where he contested against Mao for the office of DP President General.

PFF’s Kira Municipality legislator, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, confirmed the ongoing talks, stating that their supreme leader, Dr. Kizza Besigye, is guiding the PFF’s decisions.

However, DP leadership has offered an olive branch to the said legislators, allowing them to pick up nomination papers if they wish to retain their positions without applying for the party ticket.

Meanwhile, sources close to Bukoto Central legislator Richard Ssebamala, who was denied the opportunity to contest against Mao, claim that he is mobilizing financial support in the US to fund candidates in his camp fighting against Mao.

Ssebamala’s supporters believe that Mao will eventually join the NRM after the 2026 general elections, and he will remain the one running the DP.
