DP Conference to Proceed Despite Sabotage Attempts

The Democratic Party (DP) in Uganda is moving forward with its national delegates conference despite reported attempts at internal sabotage. DP Secretary General Gerald Siranda confirmed that preparations are complete, and the party has secured official clearance from authorities. The conference is scheduled to take place from May 30 to June 1 in Mbarara City, western Uganda, at Asamar Hotel, with over 1,000 delegates expected to attend.

Conference Details:

  • Theme: “Constructive Engagement as an Alternative for Uganda”
  • Objective: Promote peaceful political dialogue and multi-party cooperation
  • Attendance: Strictly by invitation to ensure order and security
  • Budget: Over Shs2 billion allocated for the three-day event

Siranda assured that the party is prepared to prevent any disruptions, accusing some detractors of seeking to undermine the democratic process. Local business owners, meanwhile, welcome the economic impact of the conference. The DP Vice President for the Western Region, Hajji Imam Makumbi, echoed Siranda’s concerns, warning against individuals attempting to destabilize the conference.
