May 17 in History: Battle of Karuma Falls
On May 17, 1979, Tanzanian forces captured the strategic Karuma Falls Bridge from Ugandan troops loyal to Idi Amin, marking a crucial milestone in the Uganda-Tanzania War. The Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF) 205th Brigade advanced from Masindi to Gulu, overcoming Ugandan resistance and securing the bridge.
