President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni recently conducted an inspection of the ongoing construction works at the Hoima City Stadium. The stadium, which is slated to be one of the venues for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) that Uganda will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania, has made significant progress, much to the President’s satisfaction.
During his visit, President Museveni commended the contractor, SUMMA, a Turkish company, for their efficiency and pledged to continue investing in sports infrastructure development across the country. He emphasized the importance of providing modern sports facilities, noting that Uganda boasts a rich sporting history, but has been hindered by economic challenges in the past.
The Hoima City Stadium project is an ambitious undertaking that is expected to be completed within 18 months, with a deadline of December 2025. Upon completion, the stadium will have a 20,000-seater capacity and will be constructed on a 42-acre piece of land. This state-of-the-art facility will not only provide a world-class venue for sports events but also serve as a hub for community activities and social gatherings.
The President’s inspection visit was also attended by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni. She expressed her gratitude to the President for his unwavering support for sports development and emphasized the need for value for money and timely release of resources to avoid project delays.
The construction of the Hoima City Stadium is a testament to the government’s commitment to promoting sports development and infrastructure growth in Uganda. As the country prepares to co-host the 2027 AFCON, the completion of this stadium will be a significant milestone, showcasing Uganda’s capability to host international events and providing a platform for local athletes to showcase their talents.
