EEMA Faction Launches ‘Save JEEMA Crusade’ to Oust Asuman Basalirwa

Asuman Basalirwa, the current leader of the Justice Forum (JEEMA), is facing opposition from within his own party. A faction, led by spokesperson Ssentongo Kyamundu, has launched the “Save JEEMA Crusade” campaign, aiming to remove Basalirwa from office, claiming his presidency is illegitimate.

The faction plans to hold a delegates conference in July, where they hope to oust Basalirwa. This move highlights the internal power struggles within JEEMA. Basalirwa has been the president of JEEMA since 2010 and has been a key figure in Ugandan politics, serving as a member of parliament for Bugiri Municipality since 2018.

It’s worth noting that Basalirwa has been a vocal figure in Ugandan politics, and his leadership has been marked by significant events, including his support for the National Unity Platform leader, Robert Kyagulanyi, in the 2021 general election ¹. The outcome of the “Save JEEMA Crusade” campaign and the July delegates conference remains to be seen, and it will be interesting to see how this internal power struggle unfolds.
