Buganda’s Former Speaker Nelson Kawalya Dies at the age of 84.

Former Buganda Assembly Speaker, Owek. Nelson Kawalya, passed away early this morning at the age of 84. He was born on September 27, 1940. Kawalya was taken to Mengo Hospital in critical condition, where he unfortunately succumbed to his illness.

Kawalya’s son, Ssenteza Victor Kawalya, announced that the family is working closely with the Anglican Church, the Kingdom, and Rotary to make arrangements for his funeral, which will be announced soon.

Interestingly, just a few days ago, on December 14, 2024, Owek. Nelson Kawalya celebrated a remarkable milestone – the 50th anniversary of his holy marriage.

Kawalya was a prominent figure in Buganda’s politics and society. He was a strong supporter of the Anglican Church and had been involved in various community development projects. In 2013, he was a guest preacher at the launch of the Musa Mukasa Chapel, where he pledged total support from the Buganda Government.
