Most Ugandans who have been working on their National ID replacement, all they needed was a letter from Police and proof of payment of UGX 50,000 from any Bank near you.
But today the 15th of May 2024, cabinet has resolved to increase the amount up to UGX 300,000 starting September 2024 after the ongoing mass enrollment for new IDs and the replacement of old ones.
The reason for the increase of this amount is said to be arising from the lame excuses people have been giving to the National Identification and Registration Authority for the replacement or in their need to changes of some of their personal details.
The Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi has however clarified saying ” individuals adopting new marriage names or dropping them after divorce will be exempted from the increased fee.”
