National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has cautioned government officials against placing their trust in political power, arguing that many who serve the regime are eventually abandoned when they are no longer useful.
In a statement released on Monday titled “On the Wangadyas of This World,” Bobi Wine said some public officials sacrifice justice and the interests of ordinary Ugandans in exchange for power, protection, and privilege. He claimed that such loyalty often ends in disappointment once political fortunes change.
The opposition leader pointed to the reported resignation of former Uganda Human Rights Commission Chairperson Mariam Wangadya, describing it as an example of what he believes is a recurring trend within the government. He also mentioned several prominent figures, including Kakooza Mutale, Abdallah Kitatta, Kale Kayihura, Peter Elwelu, and Speaker Anita Among, saying they illustrate how political influence can fade over time.
Bobi Wine added that although the reasons behind Wangadya’s reported resignation are personal, stepping down could provide an opportunity to rebuild her reputation. He concluded by urging public officials to uphold integrity and serve the public rather than pursue political interests.
