Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have continued their preparations for the new season with the signing of Gabonese goalkeeper Loyce Marius Mbaba.
The Venoms confirmed the arrival of the experienced goalkeeper on Thursday, July 9, as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of a campaign that will see them compete in several domestic and continental competitions.
Mbaba joins Vipers after building a reputation as one of Gabon’s experienced goalkeepers. The 28-year-old has represented his country at senior level on more than 16 occasions and was part of the Gabon squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The move sees Mbaba become the club’s fourth signing of the current transfer period, following the additions of Joel Sserunjogi, Jacques Mangoba, and Nicholas Mwere.
Vipers moved for the Gabon international after parting ways with Alfred Mudekereza, whose contract came to an end, leaving the club in need of a new option between the posts.
The decision to bring in Mbaba is believed to have been influenced by newly appointed head coach Denis Lavagne, who identified the goalkeeper as part of his plans for building a competitive team during his two-year tenure.
Mbaba brings valuable experience from both domestic and international football. He previously won the Gabon top-flight league title with AS MangaSport during the 2017/18 season and has also featured for Ivorian clubs Bouaké FC and Stella Club d’Adjamé.
His arrival adds more depth and competition to the Vipers squad as the club targets success in the 2026/27 season.
The Venoms will have a demanding schedule ahead, with participation expected in the CAF Champions League, CECAFA Kagame Cup, Uganda Premier League, Stanbic Uganda Cup, FUFA Super Cup, and the FUFA Super 8 Tournament.
Vipers will be hoping Mbaba’s experience, leadership, and international exposure can play a key role as they aim to maintain their dominance in Ugandan football while making a strong impact on the continental stage.
