Uganda’s Hoima Stadium Project Progresses Ahead of AFCON 2027

The Hoima City stadium construction is progressing rapidly, impressing members of the CHAN 2025 and AFCON 2027 local organizing committee. The Turkish construction firm, SUMMA, is building the stadium, which will feature:

  • 20,000-seater main stadium with a running track
  • 2,000-seater indoor arena
  • Semi-Olympic swimming pool
  • Outdoor courts for basketball, volleyball, and netball
  • Training pitch and a parking lot for over 1,000 vehicles

The project, valued at $129 million, is expected to be completed by December 2025, six months ahead of the original 18-month timeline. President Yoweri Museveni recently inspected the stadium and praised SUMMA’s efficiency, noting the significant progress made in just a few months. The stadium will play a critical role in hosting matches for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Uganda will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania.

The construction of the Hoima City stadium is part of Uganda’s preparations for AFCON 2027 and aims to enhance sports infrastructure in the region. Once completed, the stadium will serve as a hub for youth development programs, create employment opportunities, and boost tourism.
