Dr. Frank Nabwiso, Renowned Scholar, Historian, and Politician, Passes Away at 84

Dr. Nabwiso had been bedridden for an extended period due to a long-term illness, and he was receiving care at Mukono Church of Uganda Hospital. Despite his health challenges, he remained a prominent figure in Uganda’s political and academic circles.

Dr. Nabwiso was a former Member of Parliament for Kagoma County from 2001 to 2006, representing the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party. During his tenure, he became known for his strong advocacy for democratic principles and rural development. However, in the 2006 elections, he lost his seat to Frederick Nkayi in a competitive race.

In 2021, Dr. Nabwiso contested for the Jinja City mayoral seat as the FDC candidate but was defeated by Peter Kasolo Okocha of the National Unity Platform (NUP).

Despite these electoral setbacks, Dr. Nabwiso continued his political involvement by serving on the FDCs Party Elders Committee. Notably, he chaired the committee that investigated and addressed allegations of bribery among senior party officials, including Nathan Nandala- Matabhi and Patrick Amuriat, in 2021.

In addition to his political career, Dr. Nabwiso was a passionate educator. He began his teaching career as a Grade 3 teacher and later pursued further education in his later years, eventually achieving significant recognition for his academic contributions. His dedication to education earned him respect in Uganda’s academic community.

Dr. Nabwiso also served as the Vice Chancellor of Busoga University, where he was a strong advocate for higher education in the region. His leadership at the university helped elevate the institution’s profile and foster educational development in Busoga.

Dr. Frank Nabwiso when still alive

Dr. Nabwiso is remembered for his unwavering commitment to public service and his tireless efforts in both education and politics. His legacy will be celebrated by many who worked alongside him and benefited from his contributions to Uganda’s development.
