URA Auctions Vehicles After More Than 270 Days in Customs

The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) is set to auction a number of vehicles that have spent more than 270 days in customs warehouses, giving members of the public a chance to acquire them through competitive bidding.

The vehicles are expected to attract buyers looking for cars at auction prices, but URA has warned that anyone interested should first examine the vehicles carefully before placing a bid.

The inspection exercise will run until September 5, 2026, after which the bidding will be conducted online between September 7 and 12.

Unlike a normal vehicle purchase, buyers will have to make their decisions based on the condition of the cars at the time of inspection. The vehicles will be sold on an “as is” basis, with no guarantees from URA on their mechanical condition.

Potential buyers will also not be permitted to test-drive the vehicles, and URA will not provide service records, mechanical warranties or guarantees.

The authority is therefore advising bidders to carry out their own assessment and, where necessary, seek the help of a qualified mechanic before committing money to any vehicle.

With the auction covering vehicles that have remained in customs warehouses for an extended period, prospective buyers are being encouraged to understand the risks involved and bid only after satisfying themselves with the condition of their preferred vehicle.
